ONS Census 2021, Table TS021 (Ethnic group by region)

London's 13.5% Black British share is more than three times the next highest region (West Midlands, 3.8%). This reflects both historical settlement patterns from the Windrush era and ongoing migration from sub-Saharan Africa.

Between 2011 and 2021, the Black British population grew in every English region. Growth was fastest in the East of England and East Midlands, reflecting dispersal from London and direct migration to university cities.
