Our commitment to accuracy, transparency, and rigorous data verification in presenting UK Black demographics statistics.

UK Black Demographics is currently undergoing systematic verification of all statistics against named government sources with specific table references. This process follows the discovery and removal of fabricated source citations during our internal audit.

We have identified the correct authoritative sources (ONS Annual Population Survey, Census 2021, DfE statistics, Home Office data, NHS Digital reports) and documented exactly where each figure should be verified. A human researcher will now complete the verification process by accessing these sources directly and recording specific table references.

UK Black Demographics is committed to presenting accurate, verifiable, and transparently sourced data on Black British communities. This page explains our approach to data sourcing, verification, citation, and error correction.

Our Core Principle:

Every statistic published on this platform must be traceable to a named, publicly accessible source with specific table references and URLs. When figures cannot be verified, they are clearly marked as pending verification or removed entirely.

We prioritize official government statistics and peer-reviewed research from credible institutions. Our primary sources include:

When a statistic cannot be verified against its cited source, we take immediate action:

If the figure is likely accurate but lacks proper citation, we add a prominent "Pending verification" tag and a yellow warning banner to the page. Users are instructed not to cite the figure until verification is complete.

Example:

A figure citing "ONS 2023" without a specific table reference.

If the source citation is fabricated or demonstrably incorrect, we remove the figure immediately and replace it with a placeholder stating "Figure pending verification — see methodology."

A pay gap figure citing "ONS ASHE 2023" when ASHE does not collect ethnicity data.

If we can locate a verified figure for the same metric from a credible source, we replace the unverified figure with the verified one and update the citation.

We are committed to correcting errors transparently and promptly. If you identify an error, inaccuracy, or unverifiable statistic on this platform:

3. Provide evidence:

If possible, link to the correct source or explain why the current citation is problematic.

4. We respond within 48 hours:

We will investigate and respond within two business days.

5. Corrections are published:

If we confirm an error, we correct it immediately and document the correction.

As of April 2026, we are conducting a comprehensive site-wide verification audit. Multiple pages currently display "DATA UNDER VERIFICATION" warnings while we add specific table references and URLs to all statistics.

Pages with verification warnings should not be cited until the warnings are removed. We expect to complete this verification process by the end of April 2026.

descWe prioritize data accuracy over having impressive-looking statistics. It is better to have fewer figures that are properly verified than many figures that cannot be traced.

descWhen data has limitations (e.g., England-only, specific age groups, sample sizes), we state these clearly. We do not present partial data as comprehensive.

descStatistics are not static. We commit to re-verifying figures annually and updating them when new data is published by source organizations.
